The Phantom Girl of Sunset Avenue

The Phantom Girl of Sunset Avenue
By Kim Carter

Elizabeth Shelley felt a chill go down her spine. Ever since she and her familyhad moved to the new house on Sunset Avenue, she felt a chilling feeling wherever she went. She couldn't explain it.
Her parents, Melinda and Jake, and her brother, Marvin, thought she was being silly. They didn't believe in such things. But Elizabeth was sure something was in the house. She turned and screamed at what she believed was a face in the mirror.
It was a little girl. She had pale skin and was dressed in a shabby white dress. She looked like she was seven. She had shiny green eyes and brown hair.
Her parents and Marvin came running. When asked what was wrong, she explained she had seen a face in the mirror. Her parents and Marvin grumbled and went back downstairs. Elizabeth knew she wasn't crazy, she really had seen a face.
She decided to look up the history of the house. She was horrified at what she read.
Apparently one of the richest families in Illinois and they used to live in the house and they had a little girl named Emily who had died from scarlet fever there. Soon afterward, her parents moved out but Emily did not. Emily was not an evil spirit. She tried to make the new families feel welcome but were always driven out because they did not know what was going on.
Elizabeth felt sorry for Emily. Elizabeth took one of her old dolls and laid it on her bed with a note that said FOR EMILY. Elizabeth left and came back an hour later.
The doll was gone.
Elizabeth wanted to make sure Emily was welcome and didn't need to be afraid of her.
Elizabeth never saw the doll again.
